Newcastle Interchange - The First Trains

Hi all.

12am on the morning of Sunday 15th October 2017 the concourse area of the new Newcastle Interchange station opened.
1:30am on the dot the 3 brand new platforms opened.

The very first passenger train out of the station departed soon after 1:30am.
It was a Fassifern service run by OSCar set H24 and it departed from platform number 1.
Not too long after H24 departed, Hunter set J4 formed the first Hunter Line service out of the new station.
It was bound for Telarah and departed from platform number 2.

I finished the night by catching the 2:45am service back to Sydney which was an OSCar and departed from platform number 3.

The photo's in this blog show the concourse, the other shows the first trains side by side.

NSW Police Academy V Set Carriages

Hi everyone.

On Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th July 2017 V Set Carriages DCM8022 & DCM8027 were road hauled from Chullora to the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn.

DCM8027 was first to go in the early hours of Wednesday Morning.
DCM8022 went in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Each night the carriages left Chullora just after midnight.
Arriving at Goulburn at roughly 2:30am.

Here is some brief history on each of the carriages.

DCM8022 was retired from service in October 2011.
This carriage seemingly had a pretty clean life with no significant events occurring apart from this transfer of course.

DCM8027 was part of set V13 and was retired from service in July 2013 along with therest of the set following an incident in the Blue Mountains suburb of Medlow Bath where a tree landed on the top deck of the lead car of V13. The lead car was DCM8028.
DCM8027 was the fourth position carriage.
The tree fell as a result of strong winds.

These two carriages will now be used for training purposes at a scenario railway station called Rossiville which was constructed within the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn.

K & C Sets Withdrawn From Service

Hi everyone!
About a week ago Asbestos fibres were found in the K and C Set fleet forcing them to be withdrawn from service until the issue was rectified.
Delays and service cancellations were experienced on the T5 Cumberland line due to the shortage of trains.
As of Monday all K and C Sets were out of service and all S Sets were released into service to cater for the train shortage.

The photo in this blog shows S Sets S135 & S69 at Penrith station on Platform 3 after terminating on return from Hornsby.

Its unclear as to when the K and C Set fleet will return to service.

Endeavour Sets Get a New Look

Hi all and thanks for reading another transport blog.

This one is about our Endeavour Sets.
A few weeks ago set 7 was released from Downer EDi in Cardiff with the NSW TrainLink livery.
Not only does the exterior look different but the interior has a couple of minor changes such as flooring that matches the Sydney Trains Waratah fleet and just an overall brighter look with the help of new LED lighting.

London Taxi's Hit Australia!

Hi all.
A couple of days ago I was going for a stroll around Milsons Point near Bradfield Park.
While on this peaceful walk I came across a Taxi that beared a strong resemblance to a London Taxi.
I then remembered hearing on the news about London style Taxi's coming to Sydney.
I walked closer and noticed the badge on the front of the Taxi said "The London Taxi Company".
I immediately asked the driver if it was ok if I took a couple of photo's as I was quite fascinated.
He was very kind and basically told me to go nuts with photo's, so I did!
The best photo is the one you can see here in this Blog.

Thank you all for reading, I will be sure to post more Blogs about these cool looking Taxi's as more photo opportunities arise.

Busways 472

Busways unit No.472 resides at the Gosford depot located in Kincumber, NSW.

472 carries a Custom Coaches 228 body coupled Mercedes Benz O405 Mk 2 chassis with a ZF 5HP500 gearbox.

472 started on the production line of Custom Coaches, Villawood on 27 August 1999 and entered service at Kincumber in February 2000 which makes it now 16 years old.

When she entered service, the registration was MO.4933 which in January 2010 was changed to 6150.MO due to the introduction of metropolitan and regional MO plates. ( MO stands for Metro Omnibus )

The bus entered service with a destination blind but had it replaced with a green flipdot Mobitec electronic destination board in 2003.

In more recent times, 472 was given an overhaul in May 2015 which included an mechanical, internal and external overhaul. Also due to this overhaul, 472 lost the old Busways stripe livery.

As of the 10th February 2016, 472 has travelled a total of 992,598km. Which is nearly from the Earth to the Moon, back to Earth and to the Moon again.

Unfortunately 472 doesn't see too much route work anymore only doing an average of 200 kilometers a day ( excluding weekends ).

Sydney's New Ferries

Over the past month you may have noticed a ferry at Circular Quay names Catherine Hamlin.
Well, this is the first of Sydney's new ferry fleet under test.
Although it looks similar to some of our current ferry fleet on the outside, it is modern on the inside with new features such as wifi and more!
These ferries will be replacing our 2 lady class ferries. Lady Northcott and Lady Herron.

There will be approx 6 new ferries that will enter service over the coming couple of years.

More information will be posted to this blog as soon as is becomes available.

Thank you all for reading my blog and I will see you next time!
